Privacy policy

1. Who we are
Should I Buy This Car? is operated by MotorIQ.ai Ltd. MotorIQ provides vehicle ownership-risk reports and related vehicle-history services for UK vehicles.
Privacy requests and customer questions are handled through the contact form on this website.
2. Information we collect
When you use the report flow, we collect the vehicle registration number, mileage, expected mileage, expected ownership period, selected report type, and any manual vehicle details you enter.
When you buy or receive a report, Stripe collects payment and checkout details. Stripe returns payment confirmation and the email address needed for report delivery.
We store the generated report, vehicle metadata, payment/order references, report access records, delivery status, and operational logs needed to generate, deliver, support, and audit the service.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to look up the vehicle, generate the report, process payment, provide a secure report link, send the report email, produce the PDF, handle upgrades, and respond to support requests.
We use operational records and basic service analytics to monitor reliability, investigate service issues, prevent abuse, troubleshoot checkout/report-generation/delivery failures, and improve report quality.
If you opt in to marketing communications through the report flow, contact form, footer signup, or another subscribe form, we may use your email address to send product updates or related offers. You can opt out by changing your preferences or contacting us through the website.
4. Cookies and similar storage
Essential cookies, local storage, server logs, and basic diagnostics are used for security, checkout return handling, report generation state, report access, report delivery, abuse prevention, storing your privacy preferences, and confirming that the core service journey is working.
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are used as essential operational/performance measurement to monitor whether the core service journey is functioning correctly, diagnose friction, and improve reliability. They are not used for behavioural advertising or remarketing.
Optional marketing storage is used only if you choose Marketing in the cookie preference notice. This enables Meta Pixel audiences and lets us add your report email to the product-news list when you provide it in the report flow.
Meta Pixel is not used unless marketing consent is enabled.
Your choices are stored in your browser. You can change them through the Cookie preferences link in the site footer or on this privacy policy page.
5. Data sources and processors
We use vehicle data providers, payment processors, email delivery providers, hosting providers, and AI model providers to provide the service.
Full Reports include a Vehicle History Check with data provided by Experian. Basic Reports do not include that history-check section unless upgraded later.
Providers receive only the information needed for the relevant step, such as registration number, vehicle details, payment order reference, report delivery email, or report text needed for generation.
6. Storage and retention
Report links are intended to remain available for the access period shown in the report email. Generated reports and operational records may be retained for support, audit, service reliability, and product improvement.
If you do not opt in to marketing communications, email addresses held on report records are limited to 14 days after report completion and are then removed from those report records where technically possible.
If you opt in to marketing communications while providing an email address in the report flow, contact form, footer signup, or another subscribe form, your email address is added to our marketing subscriber list and may be retained for marketing until you withdraw consent or ask us to remove it.
Payment records are retained according to Stripe records and our financial, fraud-prevention, and accounting obligations.
7. Who we share data with
We do not share your report with dealers or sellers and do not publish your vehicle lookups.
We share information with service providers involved in vehicle lookup, report generation, history checks, payment, hosting, storage, email delivery, monitoring, and support.
We may disclose information where required by law, regulation, court order, fraud prevention, security investigation, or to protect our legal rights.
8. Your choices and rights
You can choose whether service-improvement storage and marketing storage are enabled. Essential storage, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and basic diagnostics remain necessary so we can run the service, secure it, confirm payment/report completion, investigate failures, and support customers.
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of personal data where those rights apply under UK data protection law.
Some information may need to be retained where required for payment records, legal obligations, security, fraud prevention, or dispute handling.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect service data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
If you believe your report link or personal data has been misused, contact us through the website contact form.
